Construction to start on Rayford Road feeder at I-45

After some delays, Precinct 3 is moving forward with plans to enhance the intersection of Rayford Road at Interstate 45.

The improvements will allow for better traffic flow at the intersection by constructing an acceleration lane which will allow motorists traveling west on Rayford Road to turn onto the Interstate 45 northbound feeder road without stopping and merging onto the main lanes of the feeder.

Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack first announced the $350,000 project late last year. Construction was planned to be underway earlier this year but according to Noack’s office, a mistake by officials with the Texas Department of Transportation on the contract delayed the permitting process.

According to Matt Beasley with Noack’s office, TxDOT granted the precinct the permit for the project in July. Funding is being provided by Precinct 3 and the construction is expected to be complete by Dec. 15.

“This improvement is just the beginning of mobility improvements I intend to implement for Rayford Road” Noack stated in a press release Monday.

Noack said that intersection is one of the areas in Precinct 3 that has the most congestion, noting the county has done some previous work on the intersection to help with traffic flow.
